Privacy policy
Last updated: August 2026. This page describes how the Gaffer football manager game ("Gaffer", "we", "us") handles information when you use gaffer.gg and the Gaffer Android app.
What we collect
- Account data when you sign in with Discord or Google (or email, if enabled): user id, display name, profile image, and email if your provider shares it.
- Game data linked to your account: club profile, squad, lineups, match history, leaderboard standing, in-game currencies (e.g. GAF Points, manager points), packs, tournaments, and penalties lobby activity.
- User-generated content you choose to submit: penalties lobby chat messages (stored up to 24 hours), custom club crest images you upload, and display names or club names you set.
- Optional profile links if you connect services such as X (Twitter) or Discord from your profile.
- Technical data needed to run the service: session cookies, device remember tokens (for staying signed in on the Android app), server logs, and security-related metadata. We use HTTPS for data in transit.
Cookies and similar technologies
Gaffer uses cookies and browser storage for essential functionality only — not for advertising or cross-site tracking. Examples:
- Session cookies to keep you signed in after Discord or Google authentication.
- OAuth cookies (short-lived) during sign-in redirects.
- gaffer-locale to remember your language preference.
- Device remember token (cookie and local storage) so the Android app can restore your session without signing in again every launch.
We do not use analytics or advertising cookies. You can clear cookies in your browser settings; doing so will sign you out.
Penalties lobby chat
When you use lobby chat on the Penalties page, your message text is stored with your user id and shown to other managers currently in the lobby with your club name and crest. Messages are automatically deleted after about 24 hours. You can report abusive messages using the in-app Report control or email support@gaffer.gg. See our Community guidelines.
How we use data
We use this information to operate the game (authentication, saving your club, running matches and leaderboards), display lobby chat, host uploaded crests, prevent abuse, respond to reports, and improve the service. We do not sell your personal data to advertising networks.
Third parties
Sign-in is handled by your chosen provider (Discord, Google, or email verification services) under their privacy policies. Game assets and custom crests may be stored with cloud storage providers. Gaffer is hosted on infrastructure providers that process data on our behalf to deliver the website and database. Optional integrations (e.g. Polana Gaming Hub for HUBS balances) only run when configured for your account.
Discord
Gaffer offers Sign in with Discord (Discord OAuth2). In Discord's Authorized Apps list, our application appears as Gaffer.gg. When you sign in with Discord, we receive information Discord shares with us based on the permissions you approve — typically your Discord user ID, username, display name, avatar image URL, and email address (if Discord provides it). We store your Discord user ID and username to create and secure your Gaffer account, show your avatar in the game where appropriate, and prevent duplicate accounts. We do not post to Discord on your behalf through sign-in.
Guild perks:If you join Gaffer's Discord server, the Gaffer.gg Discord bot may read whether you are a member of that server and whether you hold specific roles (for example community roles used for in-game energy or achievement perks) or boost the server. We store simple yes/no flags on your Gaffer account used only for those in-game benefits. The bot does not read your private Discord messages, direct messages, voice channels, or friend lists.
Optional integrations: When enabled, Polana Gaming Hub may use your Discord user ID as a lookup key for HUBS balances or spends tied to your account. You can optionally connect Discord from your profile to display your Discord username on your club page.
Public announcements: The Gaffer.gg Discord bot may post game announcements to public channels on our Discord server. Those posts do not use your personal Discord data.
Discord processes your information under Discord's Privacy Policy. You can revoke Gaffer.gg's access anytime in Discord → User Settings → Authorized Apps. Revoking access signs you out of Gaffer but does not by itself delete your saved game data — use the account deletion section below to request removal.
Children
Gaffer is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Delete your account and data
You can request deletion of your Gaffer account and associated game data at any time.
- Email support@gaffer.gg from the same email address linked to your account (or tell us your Discord username and in-game club name).
- Use the subject line: Gaffer account deletion request.
- We will verify ownership and delete your account within 30 days.
What is deleted: your user profile, club, squad, match history, inventories, tournament entries, lobby chat messages, and other data tied to your account.
What we may keep: minimal backup copies for a short period as required for security, fraud prevention, or legal obligations; anonymized aggregate statistics that cannot identify you.
